I kintsugi (metal-joining) a broken vessel that I usually use. I was very attached to it and cherished it so much that I was reluctant to dispose of it, and I wanted to revive it and use it again.
Many people are requesting Kintsugi with this kind of feeling. I believe that this is the time for Japan’s “mottainai” culture to flourish.
Maki-e in gold over a gold-plated joint
Maki-e in gold is done on top of a solid gold lacquer-work. Gold reflects light, so that the gold maki-e is clearly visible. It seems that the hand of man adds luxury.
