Koketsugi Kintsugi Kana-maki
This bowl was created by joining two fragments from an early Imari half-cylinder tea bowl using koketsugi (joining with lacquer), then reassembled with kintsugi (gold-joined) using red lacquer. Kana-maki (gold-painted decoration) was added to enhance its ornamental quality.
What would typically be treated as reference fragments has been given new life through traditional techniques, revived as a functional tea bowl. The texture of the historically imbued fragments harmonizes with the new landscape created by the calligraphy-style joining, evoking a sense of once-in-a-lifetime beauty.
This is a truly unique piece, combining the charm of antique ceramics with the beauty of kintsugi.
