This tea bowl was created by layering multiple fragments of early Imari porcelain, fusing additional pieces using the kotsugi technique, filling missing sections with resin, and breathing new life into it through kintsugi.
What were once merely scattered fragments were restored to form a single bowl. Only through this process did its identity as a “small tea bowl” become clear. This piece conveys the fact that such vessels were indeed commissioned in the past and graced the tea ceremony setting.
The traces of history etched alongside the shimmer of gold and silver transcend the chips and repairs, elevating them into beauty. They evoke the elegance of early Imari and the spirit of its era. Transcending mere ceramic fragments, its existence as a “resurrected tea bowl” connecting past and present carries even greater value.
