Early Imari Landscape Pattern Tsubo-shaped Tea Bowl

Dimensions: Length approx. 10.2cm × Width approx. 8.8cm Height approx. 7.0cm
Weight: Approx. 219g
Restoration: Reconstructive Repair, Kotsugi (Joined Repair), Silver Makie
This early Imari tea bowl features a landscape design and has a tsubo-shaped form. Originally a perfectly round vessel, it suffered a large break primarily at the foot. Two similar ceramic fragments were carefully joined using the “kotsugi” (joined repair) technique.
The missing section was reinforced with resin, filled with black resin, and then decorated with gold and silver maki-e depicting a landscape similar to the original ceramic fragments. This restoration has created a unique tsubo-shaped form characteristic of kotsugi, resulting in a beautiful aesthetic that transcends simple reconstruction.
Enjoy this one-of-a-kind tea bowl, a fusion of the charm of antique ceramics and modern techniques.
