【Work Description】 Born from the desire to “have my very own katakuchi tea bowl,” this is a fusion piece transcending eras and origins.
The base is “Early Imari,” where elegant white porcelain beautifully complements indigo painting. To this, we boldly combined the spout section of “Old Karatsu (Blue Karatsu),” known for its robust earthy quality and glaze patterns. Four entirely different ceramic fragments are elevated into a single vessel through the art of yobitsugi (calling and joining).
Particularly noteworthy is the expression of the “kintsugi” (golden joinery) connecting the different ceramic fragments. It does more than simply repair the cracks; by delicately drawing patterns into the joints, it imparts a new rhythm and decorative quality to the vessel.
The coolness of porcelain, the warmth of earthenware, and the shimmer of gold. These elements harmonize in exquisite balance, creating a piece that transcends the boundaries of traditional kintsugi, inviting you to enjoy a “new world of kintsugi.”
