Repaired with Kotsugi (joining broken pieces), Kintsugi (gold joining), and Kin-gin Makie (gold and silver sprinkled lacquer)
This early Imari Fukuju mon pattern ridged tea bowl has been meticulously restored using Kotsugi, Kintsugi, and Kin-gin Makie. Two broken pieces of the bowl were joined together, and the missing sections were filled with resin. While it no longer retains its original shape, it has been revived as a unique tsubo-shaped bowl. Its palm-sized dimensions make it easy to incorporate into daily use.
This bowl was discarded due to a hole in the clay body caused by a roof leak before firing. The damage was confirmed after firing, leading to its disposal. Several similar shards have been found, suggesting the kilns and buildings of the time were quite simple.
This bowl possesses a unique charm, conveying the history and techniques of early Imari to the present day.
